Botox
What is Botox?
Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox ®) is an injectable medicine, which temporarily paralyses muscles by blocking the nerves which supply them. The muscles targeted are those responsible for causing wrinkles on the face.
Does it hurt?
A brief scratching sensation is felt at the injection site, but the needle size is similar to a human hair. In rare cases there may be some bruising or swelling, but this quickly resolves. The area is numbed prior to treatment. An ice pack can be used before the treatment to minimise any discomfort.
How long does it take to work?
The treatment can take between 2-14 days to take full effect and you will be offered a review appointment after 14 days to check your progress.
How long does it last?
The treatment should last between 3-6 months and is dependent on age, skin type and other factors, which your aesthetic nurse practitioner can discuss with you.
Are there side effects?
Headaches and local bruising are rare. Some patients may not respond to the treatment and in very rare cases drooping of the eyelid can occur. This is reversible through the use of eye drops.
Is it safe?
This treatment has been used for many years. The product itself is extremely dilute and the injections are very specific, therefore it is very rare to get any serious complications or side effects.

Dermal Filler and Lip Filler
What are fillers?
Fillers are a gel -like substance, which is injected underneath the wrinkle to correct it from the inside. They are made from a natural substance (Hyaluronic Acid), already found in the human body. This substance also deeply moisturises the skin.
Is the treatment painful?
There is some mild discomfort during the injection process. A local anaesthetic cream will be used on the skin before treatment to make the process as comfortable as possible. We use new types of fillers containing a local anaesthetic within them, which makes the post-treatment sensation much more comfortable.
How long do they take to work?
Unlike Botox®, treatment results are instant. There is some continuing improvement over the following few days after treatment and drinking plenty of water is advised to hydrate and ‘plump up’ the filler.
How long does the effect last?
The longevity of fillers is variable and depends on the individual. However, you should expect fillers to last between 6-12 months.
Are there side effects?
Serious side effects are rare, but some people experience mild bruising and tenderness to the treated area, which usually resolves within a few days. The risk of tissue break down (necrosis) is an extremely rare complication, which affects less than 1 in 20,000 patients.
Is it safe?
Fillers have been used as a cosmetic treatment for many years and are considered very safe. They give a natural, youthful look to the skin, which is temporary. In the unlikely event that you were not satisfied with the results, the treatment can be reversed using a simple medicine.

Dermal Roller / Skin Needling
What is Dermaroller?
The Derma Roller is a revolutionary device, which has the amazing ability to naturally stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin without damaging it. Regenerating and repairing the skin. The result is a brighter, fresher more even complexion as collagen growth is stimulated from deep within the dermis. Treatment may also be known as “Collagen Induction Therapy”. This takes time as new collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated and blood supply is enhanced. It can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long lasting enhancement.
What is the difference between Dermaroller and other skin rejuvenation techniques?
In contrast to all ablative techniques like Lasers and Fractional Laser treatments, the Dermaroller stimulates new tissue formation – it acts constructively and the skin remains intact. The skin does not get damaged (unlike other needling devices) and therefore will not go into a wound healing response. The Dermaroller significantly improves atrophic scars & improves skin texture.
Does it hurt?
The skin is cleansed and numbed with an appropriate numbing cream so it should not hurt at all.
How long does it take to work?
For Collagen Induction Therapy we recommend to start with 3 treatments, but with a minimum separation time of 6 to 8 weeks between treatments. For Scar Reduction Therapy an average of 3 to 5 treatments are recommended, with an improvement of 70-80%. Unlike ablative procedures for facial skin only, the Dermaroller can be used on all skin parts of the body (neck, décolleté, arms, legs, etc).
Are there side effects?
There are no side affects linked to this treatment.
What is the down time after a Dermaroller treatment?
The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 12 to 24 hours on average. In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend healing minerals, peptides or hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc based sun screen. We also recommend the use of mineral makeup to help with the healing.
What should I avoid on my skin?
To ensure the right healing environment, for 2-3 days DO NOT use AHA’s (Glycolic Acid), Retinol, acidic or “active” ingredients.
What should I use on my skin after the Dermaroller treatment?
An Anti-Inflammatory Cleanser to soothe, Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate, Copper to help heal, Zinc to help heal but also to protect.

Chemical Peel
What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a procedure that rejuvenates skin. Most individuals find benefit from the application of glycolic acid. In almost all cases, patients will notice an improved vitality of skin.
Does it hurt?
There is a mild degree of “tingling” or a slightly itchy sensation while the glycolic acid is in contact with the skin. Upon neutralizing the peel, the skin feels fresh and smooth without discomfort.
How long does it take to have a chemical peel?
About thirty minutes in total, hence it has often been referred to as “the lunch time peel”.
Are there any side effects?
No known side effects. CJG advises sunscreen must be worn for at least 1 week after the peel as your skin will likely be a little more sensitive to sun exposure.
How many chemical peels should I have and how often is it recommended?
Many individuals find that a peel performed every four to six weeks gives optimal results. Glycolic acid peels complement the regular use of other products such as glycolic acid containing preparations that can be used on a regular basis at home. The short term exposure of a higher concentration of glycolic acid on a periodic basis helps maintain skin health and appearance.
Will a chemical peel remove deep lines or wrinkles?
A glycolic acid peel will not remove deep lines. CJG recommends Botox ® in most cases where wrinkles are advanced. However, a peel will often improve the tone, texture, smoothness and appearance of skin.
Treatments available by CJG:
-The procedure is otherwise known as a deep exfoliation, it destroys parts of the skin in a controlled way, so that new skin can grow in its place. A chemical peel is carried out at a medium peel or deep peel level dependent on skin type.
